Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther was born in Atlanta Georgia, 1929. He graduated high school at the age of 15. At Boston University, he met Coretta Scott who he would marry and have children with. Later on, he unfortunately spent most of his life the target of violent intent. Of all the speeches, none of them compares to the famous, “I have a dream” speech. He became such a force in America that many people looked up to him. In 1964 he won the Noble Peace Prize. While standing on the balcony at his hotel, he was shot and killed. In 1983 Ronald Regan signed a proclamation declaring the third Monday in every January, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Martin Luther was a respected man who had a mission to change our world. Martin Luther King once said “We all have the drum major instinct. We all want to be important, to surpass others, to achieve distinction, to lead the parade. … And the great issue of life is to harness the drum major instinct. It is a good instinct if you don’t distort it and pervert it. Don’t give it up. Keep feeling the need for being important. Keep feeling the need for being first. But I want you to be the first in love. I want you to be the first in moral excellence. I want you to be the first in generosity.”
